Now, More Than Ever, We Need Your Help!
Even for Haiti's criminals, this was a shocking attack. In the middle of the night, more than 15 armed men came over the walls of our children's shelter, executed our guard, and viciously assaulted the children and staff. The next two hours were a nightmare that is better conveyed by tears than words.
Everyone has been evacuated to a safe, undisclosed location where they are protected 24/7 by an armed security detail.
Here is where your help will truly make a difference.
The lengthy process of healing is beginning, and we are providing all the best possible medical care and trauma counseling. In-person assessments are being made with each child and staff person, and a thorough review of all possible safety measures is taking place. New fortifications and staff will be added to the children's shelter. And we are committed to caring for the family of our guard, who gave his life defending the children he served. He leaves behind a wife and six children of his own, ranging in ages from 3 to 14.
If this touches your heart in any way, please help us provide for funeral expenses and living expenses for the guard's family, trauma and medical care for the children and staff, fortified housing and armed security.
Help Us Protect the Children!
For the cost of a Starbucks run or a trendy app, you could be part of the restoration of Haiti. For more information about the tragedy, see the Associated Press article, and for more information about the Chanje Movement, please visit Chanje.org.
Any additional funding beyond our goal will go to continue to support the long term care and protection of the children of Haiti.
